About Us
The Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Hong Kong (OGSHK) was founded on 7 June 1961 by senior gynaecologists, with Professor Daphne Chun as President and 52 foundation members. Its aims were to foster interest and cooperation in obstetrics and gynaecology and to organize scientific meetings.
In its first year, OGSHK held eight scientific meetings and quickly grew to 80 members. It soon engaged internationally, sending delegates to Asiatic congresses, becoming a founding member of the Federation of Medical Societies of Hong Kong, and later joining FIGO and AOFOG.
Life membership was introduced in 1965, and a crest adapted from the UK Royal College’s was adopted in 1973. Although a society journal was first proposed in 1965, the Hong Kong Journal of Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Midwifery only launched in 2000.
Over the decades, OGSHK contributed to midwives’ training, abortion law discussions, and local reference structures for the UK Royal College, while organizing continuing medical education and public health talks. It remains the official Hong Kong O&G representative within FIGO and AOFOG, continuing its original mission.
At the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society of Hong Kong, we believe in the importance of prioritizing women's health and well-being. We strive to create a supportive environment where women can access the care they need, define their reproductive health journey, and make informed decisions that positively impact their lives and the community.
Our Mission
The Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Hong Kong provides an important venue for continuous medical education and fraternity between its members in Hong Kong. It also provides resources for local research, scientific forums, public health education and official links to International Obstetrical and Gynaecological Associations. The Society is an Affiliate of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and a member of The Asian and Oceanic Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AOFOG).
